A cross-sectional team “Team Tokyo Innovation” consisting of departments related to startups was formed. We face startups in all Tokyo.

Bringing together the power of the agency to support various startups, utilize ideas, and develop entrepreneurship, we work thoroughly as “one team”.

With over 140 years of history in world-class research, Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) was classified as a Designated National University Corporation in March 2018. About 5,000 undergraduate students and 5,500 graduate students study at the three campuses — two in Tokyo, and one in adjacent Yokohama—. Ranked third in Japan by QS World University Rankings 2023, Tokyo Tech is a powerhouse in the field of science and technology research, receiving more private-sector funding for collaborative research per researcher than any other university in the country.

As for start-up support, Tokyo Tech reinforces its promotion of societal implementation by forming a start-up ecosystem that links government agencies and municipalities, nongovernmental organizations, business operators, universities, and other entities to strengthen cooperation both on and off its three campuses. Tokyo Tech, together with the University of Tokyo and Waseda University, serves as a managing organization of the Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem (GTIE). This is a platform for nurturing start-ups born in Tokyo, providing entrepreneurship training and pacesetting to students, and acting as a liaison between private companies and agencies in other countries.

Tokyo Kiraboshi FG has a future vision of becoming a ""comprehensive service provider that is also strong in finance"" and contributes to the development of local communities through comprehensive financial services. We have concluded a partnership agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) and other agreements to promote industrial development and sustainable management, and are working together to realize a sustainable society.

In November 2021, we opened KicSpace HANEDA in the Haneda area, the gateway to Japan, to support the growth of startups. For foreign residents who have traditionally had difficulty accessing finance, we aim to build a platform that supports them from their arrival in Japan to housing, working, living, and finance.

City-Tech.Tokyo will introduce many of our initiatives, domestic and international VCs, and startups, and contribute to the creation of open innovation to solve urban issues.

Tokyo Metropolitan University is the only university operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The school leverages a unique position to provide an education that nurtures human resources who can play an active role in responding to societal changes and to promote varied kinds of basic and applied research as well as research into issues in major metropolitan areas.

TMU has seven undergraduate faculties—Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Economics and Business Administration, Science, Urban Environmental Sciences, Systems Design, and Health Sciences—and is home to around 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students (*FY 2022 data) and 650 faculty members.

The Liaison Office that established to coordinate between the industrial world and public research institutions works to return the fruits of academic study to all reaches of society and play a role in the development of original products and technologies as it serves as a link between industry and academy. Other distinctive features of Tokyo Metropolitan University include things like cutting-edge research that utilizes Japan’s largest local 5G environment. This local 5G network is offered free of charge to research institutions and private businesses as a field demonstration of new 5G products and services.

Tokyo Metropolitan University also plans to establish a space on its Hino Campus for linking industry, academia, and the public sector and to serve as a base for the creation of new innovation and the enhancement of interaction and coordination between local companies and people aiming to start businesses, expanding the school’s support for the creation and nurturing of start-ups that utilize the fruits of research.

Tokyo Tatemono, Japan's oldest developer, has consistently focused on urban development since its establishment, with its headquarters in the Yaesu-Nihonbashi/Kyobashi (YNK) area, right in front of Tokyo Station. When ""Edo"" was founded 400 years ago, craftsmen and merchants gathered in YNK from all over the country. Since then, generations of innovation have brought prosperity to Japan and created the industrial clusters that exist today in YNK.

Founded in 1881, the Tokyo University of Science is one of Japan’s foremost private institutions for science and technology. It consists of seven undergraduate schools (Science Division I and II, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Science and Technology, Advanced Engineering, and Management) with 33 courses of study as well as seven graduate schools (Science, Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Science and Technology, Advanced Engineering, Management, and Biological Sciences) covering 30 subject areas, with approximately 20,000 enrolled students (as of FY 2022). Tokyo University of Science also develops its own world-class research through its Research Institute for Science and Technology and Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences.

In recent years, the university has also focused on supporting the creation of business ventures within its halls, and its 126 start-ups (as of FY 2021) ranked seventh among Japanese universities. And in April 2022, it established the Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration with the goal of generating innovation and promoting societal contribution through joint initiatives between industry and academia based on the fruits of education and research conducted on its campuses. Together with Tokyo University of Science Investment Management Co., which manages things like start-up support events and incubation facilities, and Tokyo University of Science Innovation Capital, which provides venture investment etc., the Organization for Innovation and Social Collaboration forms a start-up ecosystem known as TUSIDE. Through a variety of collaborative and cooperative efforts both on and off campus, these three entities advance initiatives that promote the creation of ventures within the university and bring the industries of the next generation into being.

At ""City-Tech.Tokyo 2023,"" we will introduce a number of initiatives that contribute to the formation of Tokyo's startup ecosystem, including the ""Greater SHIBUYA 2.0"" urban development strategy for Shibuya, which is undergoing a once-in-a-century redevelopment project.

Tokyu Land Corporation has designated the entire area centered around Shibuya Station, including the Shibuya, Omotesando, Harajuku, Ebisu, and Daikanyama areas, as the ""Greater Shibuya Area"" and is promoting the co-creation of startups.

The energy generated by startups gathering and interacting with each other is a strong attraction of Shibuya. As a company that bears responsibility for the future of this city, we offer a wide variety of services and fields for startups to take on the challenges of a wide range of businesses in the Shibuya area. We are developing flexible collaborations with external partners, such as with Shibuya Ward.
