UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd. (UTokyo IPC for short) was founded in 2016 to encourage innovation for university-related startups. The name stands for the corporate identity that serves as the innovation platform for the University of Tokyo, its startups and society as a whole through three pillars of activities: investment operations, supporting start-ups, and corporate innovation.

Investment is targeted at start-ups leveraging university-nurtured expertise into business opportunities—particularly in the area of deep tech—and takes place by way of two funds with different policies (and with a total value of ¥50 billion as of the end of 2022). So far, investments have been made in over 60 companies, 5 of which have exited.

In parallel to investments, we have been running the “1stRound” incubation program since 2017. The program provides start-ups and teams in their pre-seed stage half-year intensive supports such as hands-on, business resources as well as “equity-free” capital; so far 60 companies enjoyed the supports to leverage their business. The program has now grown to co-host with eight Japanese national universities, becoming the nation’s largest cross-university incubation platform, and continues to evolve further.

Our activities also span to the recruiting platform DEEPTECH DIVE which provides an avenue for mutual interaction and exchange between tech-related startups and talents interested in tech ventures. Now that open innovation has become the norm, we are driving various forms of business development with industry, including forming spinoff startups from them.

As the venture investment arm for the University of Tokyo, which values diversity and inclusion and is a place anyone in the world would want to join, we collaborate with venture capitals, industry, startups and academia to drive innovation across borders.

Founded in 1882 as the Tōkyō Senmon Gakkō by Ōkuma Shigenobu, Waseda University is one of Japan’s most prestigious private universities. Around 39,000 undergraduate students and 8,000 graduate students are enrolled in the school’s twenty-one research institutes and thirteen schools which range from sociology and the humanities to the natural sciences.

“Waseda Incubation Center” located at Building 19-3 has supported start-ups by offering various business seminars and mutual networking. Now renamed “Center for Entrepreneurship”, it supports fund-raising from venture-capital partners and provides the entrepreneurship program called “Waseda EDGE Global Talent Development Program”. In December 2022, the university opened the WASEDA Startup Lounge to expand the coworking function and promote interaction between entrepreneurs and others interested in starting businesses.

Yokohama City, situated south of Tokyo, is the 2nd largest city in Japan with a population of 3.7 million. Since designated as one of “Global Startup Cities” in 2020, we promote open innvation with the tagline “YOXO, Yokohama Crossover” for sustainable development of the city.

Our startups support center “YOXO BOX” provide workshops, accelerations, mentoring, networking and community building services for startups for local as well as global startups.

“Yokohama Startup VISA” is available to expand your business in Japan with a base in Yokohama. We welcome startups to join our ecosystem.

ACKTEC Technologies is a fast-growing global edtech company focused on innovation in the field of immersive learning. Founded in 2016, ACKTEC has grown rapidly to serve over 750,000 active users, digitalizing learning content across 16 countries on its ACKTECLearn platform. Our flagship (AI) smart learning platform delivers personalized and adaptive learning experiences.

We also developed an on-line learning platform, KidsQwest, for children aged 0-12 years old, offering multiple domain skills. We aggregate content from enrichment centers with proven track records and digitize the content to make it interactive and gamified. We then sell these courses on our KidsQwest platform. We operate in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand & Laos.

Aegiverse provides the Made-In-Taiwan fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOGs) and FOG-based inertial measurement units (FOG-IMUs), we are looking for Japan distributors and potential users from industry, government, and research institutes. Aerosense develops and provides a wide range of industrial solution combining drones, AI, and cloud computing to contribute to infrastructure digital transformation, enhancing efficiency and safety for on-site operation. At the “Tokyo Bay eSG Project” booth, we exhibit Aerobo Wing, a made-in-Japan VTOL, that can fly up to 50km with one stroke and has been widely used across Japan for inspection and monitoring of forestry, river and ocean. Aeterlink, spun out from Stanford University, is a startup that develops and provides "WPT" (wireless power transfer) technologies and solutions to realize a wire-free world. Our team has been engaged in research and development of medical implant devices such as pacemakers for years. In order to meet the medical needs there, it was necessary to operate the devices which is 20cm deep inside the body by transmitting power wirelessly from outside the body. Based on the technology we had cultivated throughout the project, we succeeded in developing the world's first complete WPT system, "AirPlug®," on a practical level.

The AeviceMD is a connected care platform powered by a proprietary smart wearable stethoscope for asthma and COPD management. The lightweight sensor continuously and passively analyzes chest sounds and logs the measurements (respiratory rate, heart rate, and wheeze) onto a user-friendly app to track clinical deterioration over time. Alongside its ability to record and playback chest sounds like a virtual stethoscope, the solution paints an overview of the patient’s lung health in-between consultations, empowering doctors to make expedited and informed clinical decisions anytime and anywhere.

We develop and provide “Agatha,” a service that allows medical institutions and pharmaceutical companies to share, store, and manage clinical trial and clinical research documents on the cloud. By digitizing various paper documents created and used by various stakeholders, we contribute to improving the productivity and quality of operations. In Japan, 80% of clinical research core hospitals have used our service, and we have already expanded our service to more than 30 companies in the world, and we have more than 15 partners in Japan and overseas.

Our system predicts teeth arrangement treatments through artificial intelligence algorithms. As our approach is compatible with different brands of oral scanners, once the dentists obtain the images through the scanner, our system automatically outputs the teeth alignment treatment plan, aiding the dentists in effectively and precisely predicting the orthodontic procedures for the patients.

Cooperate with dentists to make the orthodontic process AI-oriented, we assist dentists to provide digital orthodontics, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), DSD digital smile design wisdom teeth orthodontic services, complete dentition corrective forecasting, assisting medical manufacturers in marketing and sales to the world.

AGRIST Corporation's vision is ""to realize sustainable agriculture that will last for the next 100 years"",and we will do so through the power of technology. We solve agricultural issues through　reproducible and profitable agriculture using automated harvesting robots.

""L"" robot is an automatic bell peppers harvesting system. By utilizing a combination of cameras, the proprietary Al algorithm, enables the robot to identify locations between layered leaves and pick harvest-ready peppers. ""L"" makes farming more effective and efficient while solving labor shortage in agricultural harvesting.
